Otis Nicholas Portfolio
My name is Otis Nicholas and a recent graduate from Radford University. I have a BS degree in Geospatial Science focusing on environmental analysis. Geospatial Science is a discipline that focuses on using information technology to understand people, places, and processes of the earth. Spatial analysis of human and physically variables is fundamental to the discipline.
Bio
I'm a Geospatial Scientist from Central Virginia, my passion for exploring and learning new techniques for GIS drives me each and every day. Throughout my undergraduate degree program I have done projects for Selu Conservation in Radford Virginia, City of Radford, and analysis of water quality in the Middle James River Watershed.
Research Projects
Pen Park Analysis Using GPS
Used GPS to analyze different points located within the park. Some different points used were tree, benches, buildings, sidewalks, trails, and park outline
Middle James River Watershed Analysis
The Middle James River watershed is one of the most important watersheds along the east due to its rich diversity of habitats, resources, and beauty. A major problem within the watershed is its pollution such as increasing impervious surfaces along those major cities (Lynchburg, Albemarle, and Henrico) and increasing agriculture runoff in those rural counties. The objective of this study was to examine has water quality decreased or increased, and if so were there any significance in the change.
Radford City on Green Infrastructure
The objective of this presentation was to analyze different green infrastructure planning throughout the city. The main objectives were to assess land through zoning, connecting parks, trail systems and walkways through parks and neighborhoods, and attemp to mitigate storm water runoff and pollution control over impervious surfaces.
